Who is CMDN?

The Children's Mitochondrial Disease Network CMDN

CMDN was the UK's 1st charity dedicated to specialising in Mitochondrial Disorders. Established as a working support group initially in 1993. Forming as The Children's Mitochondrial Disease Network in April 1998. Dedicated to support families and professionals in raising awareness and the improved understanding of all neurometabolic mitochondrial disorders, mtDNA, nDNA and those not yet defined at a biochemical genetic level.

Why CMDN?

Paul & Rachel's Story

CMDN was founded by Paul and Rachel Preston after both their daughters died of Mitochondrial Disorders. Kristen aged 8 weeks on 18th November 1992 at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and Stacey Rhona Preston who died aged 20 on July 30th 2015, under palliative care at home. Many questions remained unanswered, why, what and how. Paul felt these questions should be addressed and answered. Not only for his and his wife's sake but for future children and indeed others parents who may go through a similar experience.
